Day Eleven : 01.09.2015

Leisurely breakfast, with black pudding (chapeau, Judd's Folly Hotel) and a number of coffees (from the machine but strangely excellent), then a visit to the desk to book a second night at the hotel, we having already assumed that the car would not be ready today.

To fill the main part of the day, we decided to take a ride out to Whitstable on the north Kent coast, and the town where the Peugeot was getting a seeing-to. It seemed a good wheeze to call in at the repair workshop to show a face and exert a chummy but gentle pressure. No idea if it had any real effect, but we later got the call that the car would be ready by noon tomorrow.

The day had been drizzly, but turned sunny and even hot as we got back to Whitstable town centre. A coffee & pastry shop popped up out of nowhere. Curious how that happens.

After a scrub-up, the afternoon was spent waiting for the call confirming that the car would be ready in enough time to allow us to get to Dover for a ferry. Eventually we rebooked our abortive crossing of today for the 1600 crossing to Dunkirk tomorrow, with the intention of getting as far as Lille thereafter. More on that tomorrow if/when it succeeds.
